What is the expiration date of your product?
We bake our granola every week to give you the freshest and crunchiest granola we can. Our granola will stay good out on the shelf for 4-6 weeks. As the granola is a living product, and has oil & nuts, we strongly recommend you keep the granola in the fridge to maintain product crispness. Keeping the granola in the fridge will extend the shelf life for 2-3 months, and discourages the product from becoming chewy. You can also freeze it!
Is your packaging recyclable?
We’ve tested a lot of different packaging options this year. We started out using PLA compostable packaging, but found that the container is not compostable in back yard compost piles. We were also concerned with possible GMO contamination (PLA is corn based, hence a potential GMO product) so we’ve switched our packaging to a 20% recycled plastic container. Check with your local recycler to determine if our packaging fits within your city's guidelines.
Why do you donate 1% of all profits?
We’re passionate about giving back to the community we call home. We donate 1% of all profits to animal and environmental causes in the Seattle area. For 2010, we’re donating to PAWS in Lynwood and Eastside Audubon. PAWS is an amazing organization that does wildlife rehabilitation, and works with injured and sick owls. Eastside Audubon is another organization focused on wetlands restoration and education of birds and owls. We’ll post our donation amounts on our Facebook page at the end of 2010. Thank you all for helping us give something back to the community!
I see you don’t have wheat flour, dairy, soy, eggs or sugar in your products…. So what’s in the granola then?
John and I laugh out loud when we get this question at the farmers markets! Our first response is… well the granola has lots of yummy ingredients for you to enjoy. We take great pride in making sure the granola is roasted perfectly and tastes great. But seriously, our goal is to make a product with a very clean ingredient list, where you can read every ingredient and know exactly what’s in the product. All of our granolas contain less than 15 ingredients, but the base of the granola is primarily oats, honey, canola oil, flaxseed, spices, fruits & nuts.
Is that owl food?
You’d be surprised at how many people have asked us that question this summer! We’re so tempted to say, “why yes it is… next week we’re going to make a special Earthworm and Chipmunk variety.” Seriously peeps, it’s people food. We just love owls!
